The castle gates are closed again
It only took one year
We’ve bound up every window shut
And dumped out all the beer
Our feathers hang up on a wall
With no more shelves to dust
The doorknobs slowly stop to turn
And saturate with rust
Now rodents are the only ones
Who waltz these halls with me
Until a day when the sun comes
To finally set us free
But if I place my head onto
The cold and empty ground
And really try to listen close
I’m sure I hear a sound
I recognize my own heart’s pulse
Beneath the fortress floor
I know that there’s another way
If I just found the door
So many years and years ago
The architect was me
Since then I’ve lost that special door
And thrown away the key
But I’ll spelunk and finally see
What lies beneath the ground
And I will surely gasp with glee
When finally I am found.
