Growing Pains

February 28, 2021

This only hurts because my shoes don’t fit
I’ve outgrown them along with my heart
When I wake up my stretch marks ache magenta
Like rubber bands pinning me to yesterday’s standard

The worst pain is burying my heart
Too young too big too worn too storied
I’m lucky to buy a new pair of sneakers
A heart can only scar over and try again
If I were a flower, I’d burst from the earth screaming
Freedom freedom fucking freedom.
