If we had sidewalk chalk,
we would’ve painted your entire driveway
From sunset till 3:34 we’d craft
with a full watchdog moon overhead
Instead, we colored one spot with all our tears
that concrete-cold August Tuesday
Then, on your front lawn
An owl and one thousand arms of grass reached to comfort us
We watched the horizon shift
from panther black to a wild mix of orange
A sudden sunbeam smiled down on us
and we made pancakes in the heavenly light.
